Tensions between Morena and the Workers' Party in Mexico

PT leaders express dissatisfaction with Morena's leadership and Luisa María Alcalde, accusing her of tough negotiations and unilateral decisions, despite supporting government initiatives.

Tensions between Morena and the Workers' Party in Mexico

Leaders of the Workers' Party (PT) continue to express their dissatisfaction with the president of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde, pointing to the way negotiations were conducted. According to sources within San Lázaro consulted by LPO, the final support for the legislative package did not imply a full closing of ranks, but a pragmatic decision to avoid a greater fracture within the ruling bloc. However, behind closed doors, criticisms persist towards what they consider "impositions" by Alcalde. PT deputies "In that direction, some have attacked us unjustly and incorrectly," said Reginaldo Sandoval, parliamentary coordinator of the PT, during a press conference at the Legislative Palace of San Lazaro today. But he stated that he does not give value to the "attacks and pronouncements", because "they are a minority moved by other interests". Beto Anaya insists that the alliance of the 4T continues and already demands three governorships for the PT. Once again, tensions appear between Morena and its political ally, which, while being a key government ally and supporting official initiatives, seeks to set limits against unilateral decisions. In this case, the anger focused on Alcalde, who is accused of having hardened the dialogue. Despite the dissatisfaction, the PT rules out, for now, that the relationship with the ruling party will be broken. In that sense, he added that from sectors of Morena "they are more papist than the pope and bring a lot of misinformation because they don't know where the PT comes from." The petista leader in the Chamber of Deputies also denounced that the purple party "wants to eat the smallest ones" since "they want the spaces that the party currently has." Although the Labor Party (PT) accompanied the vote on the "Plan B", promoted by the ruling party, internal tension among Morena's political allies is far from dissipating. However, they warn that this type of episode could influence future negotiations.
